E020 Duplicate National Insurance numbers

How to fix a submission rejected because two or more records share the same NI number.

What this means: Two or more records in your file share the same National Insurance number. Jarvis needs each person to appear only once per submission.

Why this might happen: Your payroll export may include multiple lines per worker (e.g. spanning more than one pay period), or there's a data entry error where two workers share the same NI number.

What to do

  1. Search your file for duplicate NI numbers (NationalInsuranceNumber in PAPDIS, NI Number in NEST, NINO in NOW:Pensions)

  2. If the same worker appears multiple times, adjust your export so each person is listed once per submission

  3. If different workers share an NI number, correct the data in your payroll system

  4. Re-export and resubmit
