What to do when Jarvis pauses your submission because an earlier payroll period appears to be missing.
The warning you'll see
Payroll period missing: Expected next [frequency] period to end [YYYY-MM-DD]
What this means
This submission appears to leave a gap after your most recent submission of the same frequency. Jarvis expected the next period to follow on from the last one, but this submission is for a later period, which suggests the period in between has not been submitted yet.
Why this happens
There are a couple of common causes:
A payroll period was missed, and a later period was uploaded by mistake.
Several payroll periods are being uploaded in one sitting (for example, four weekly periods for the previous month) and were not submitted in date order.
Why order matters
To stay in step with your payroll system, submissions need to be uploaded strictly in date order. Common payroll formats such as PAPDIS include two things in each file: the contribution data for that period, and a snapshot of enrolment details as they stood at that point. If you upload an older period after a newer one, the older snapshot can overwrite more recent enrolment updates and effectively undo them.
What to do
Check the payroll period dates on the submission and whether any earlier periods are still missing, meaning data has not yet been submitted for them.
If there is a gap, submit the missing periods first, in date order, and wait for them to finish. You can then return to this held submission and click Release.
If this submission was sent in error, click Abort.
