Can I stop my pension contributions?
Yes. You can ask to stop (or "cease") your contributions whenever you like.
How's that different from opting out?
Opting out is a one-time window you get when you're first enrolled. If you opt-out in time, you can get a refund. Ceasing is different, it stops future contributions, but anything already paid in stays in your pension pot.
If your opt-out window has already closed, here's what that means.
How do I do it?
From the Jarvis menu, select Workplace Jar
Under Contributing Employers, select the relevant scheme
Click 'Request to leave scheme' and follow the steps
That's it. We'll notify your employer straight away.
What happens after that?
Your employer needs to action the request and stop the deductions from your pay. This is between you and your employer β Jarvis sends the notification, but we can't make the deductions stop on their end.
If contributions keep coming through after you've submitted your request, speak to your employer or their payroll team directly.
One more thing
Your employer is legally required to re-enrol eligible workers into a pension scheme roughly every three years. So even after you cease, you might be enrolled again in the future. You'd get a fresh opt-out window if that happens.
