What is a CSV file?
Updated this week

A CSV file is a plain text file used to store data in a structured format, making it easier to import and export information between different spreadsheet, payroll, and accounting software. CSV files are essential for uploading pension data files and downloading employee action files.

Handling CSV Files Accurately
When working with CSV files, it's easy to lose critical information, such as payroll numbers that start with a zero. To maintain data accuracy, follow these steps:

  1. Export and Edit with Caution: Always export files directly to Excel, ensuring they are correctly formatted. Make any necessary amendments before saving the file.

  2. Saving and Uploading the CSV
Once the file is complete, save it as a .csv file and confirm the format by clicking โ€˜Yesโ€™ when prompted. After closing the document, if asked to save changes again, click โ€˜No.โ€™ Your file is then ready for upload.
